First come First served....

Usually you hear this statement when someone puts stipulations on who gets serviced first. Whether that be food service, closeout sales or even getting your car fixed at the shop. Yep people don't mind serving, as long as its on their terms.

 I mean I get it; my time is precious or I got a million other things on my plate or I am only one person. The thing is, is this really a servants attitude? I mean this may be a worlds view of a servants attitude but it's definitely not the Bibles depiction of a servant. A true commissioned man of God is called to a certain task. Well if you are called, someone has to be doing the calling right? God is calling us that means we are under his authority and leadership; his guidance and counsel. We are called to serve, not just him but his people. 

The best leaders are the ones who are not afraid to lead by example. They are not so proud that they can't put on an apron and get down on their knees and scrub that floor. Jesus is our best example of a servants attitude and mindset. God decided to come down and make his word flesh (John1:1-14) so that he can serve his creation. Serve us with the Good News of who God is. He could of taken the same attitude as the phrase "first come first served", but instead he decided to just show it instead.

The account of him washing his disciples feet (John13:1-17) is the example that comes to mind. Check it out. Jesus is sitting there having dinner (feast of the passover) and decides to get up from his seat, put on an apron (towel), and begin to wash his disciples feet. I mean here is a man who knows he is God in the flesh, knows is King of Kings and Lord of Lords; and is about to die for the sins of the world and instead of sitting there and "getting his mind right" he decides to spend his last moments serving his disciples.

Let's be real most of us before we do anything that involves a battle, presentation, sermon, performance, fight or whatever usually go to our corner and get focused minutes before the task. Some put on some music and vibe off of the tunes, some pray, some practice and practice and practice and some just sit there until the time has come. But Christ does the unthinkable, yet again. He gets up throws on an apron, gets on his knees and begins to wash his disciples feet. I say disciples because even though they are servants to the master, it was the masters turn to serve the servants. Does that even make a bit of sense to you? not if you are thinking in the carnal mindset (flesh).

The word minister in Greek means to serve.  The first real example of a true minister is Christ and we are to follow his example of proper servitude.  I plan to hit on this passage for a bit in hopes of us all learning about being a true servant not only to God but to those under our care and whom we meet.

You want to be seen as a leader in your families, home, ministry and church; what are you serving up then?  What attitude are you portraying? is it a "first come first served" attitude or is it "here let me take care of your needs first" attitude?
