Open Heart Surgery

As I continue dissecting the movie "Wreck it Ralph" the Holy Spirit points something else out to me.  Ralph was actually a complicated person, kind of like me, when it came to his heart.  On one side Ralph wanted to be loved and accepted by all, on another side he was blinded by his desire to be accepted, on another side he really did have a heart for others.  Let's take a look at what the scripture says about the "Matters of the Heart" (Commissioned song title plug).

The first scripture that kept coming to mind when it came to Ralph was Luke 12:34...Wherever your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  We humans need Christ so bad it's not funny.  Look at that scripture again.  Wherever your treasure is, there your heart will be.  There are few things the Spirit points out to me reading this.

1. We make the decision on what our treasure is
2. We make the decision on the priority of that treasure
3. Our heart will lie to us and go along with our treasure

In the case of "Wreck it Ralph"  his treasure was that hero status, not necessarily the medallion, but the symbolism behind it.  For Ralph that medallion meant he arrived.  It signified he was more than his creator made him to be.  Mind you he is a video game creation and they know it.  It meant that bad guys can be good guys too.  The thing is he wasn't wrong on his goal but he was going after the wrong treasure.  See Ralph thought his treasure was that gold hero medallion, but actually his true treasure was PRIDE.

His pride blinded him so much that unless it was satisfied, then he had no motivation or desire beyond satisfying that first.  Where is your treasure at?  Suppose it's in a new home, or a job, or a spouse, or kids, or friends, or ministry.  That's just the surface area of the treasure; your true treasure could be pride, emotional support, acceptance, lust, anger, or any number of other hidden truths about yourself that your heart knows.

Think about how serious you are about your treasure?  Can i be a little transparent today?  For me mines was companionship.  That is where my treasure was at (and something I still battle with today) and I allowed that treasure to supersede all areas of rational thought and action.  Another issue with our treasure is the fact that it is our TREASURE.  Do you know what treasure means?  

• Valuable or precious possessions of any kind
• To keep or regard as precious, value highly
• To accumulate and store away for future use.

Check out that last definition.  To accumulate and store away for future use.  Take me for instance, my surface treasure was companionship, but really it was to be loved and accepted by someone close.  I accumulated that by relationships and or marriages and then when I was feeling the need for self worth I can pull out my treasure.  "Im loved right?" "I am special right? I'm married so I must be...right?".  Whenever I needed to feel like I arrived (when I really hadn't)  I could look at my, failing, marriage.  My relationship was my treasure but my heart was really into being loved.  

That second part of that scripture in Luke 12:34, there will your heart be also, is amazingly harsh. Because the thing is this.  Your heart is lying to you because we feel our heart flutter and fill up with a sense of worth because we put this treasure first and so now we are so blinded by what our heart is telling us that we can't see what's in front of our face.

Ever wonder why you are so blindsided by your spouses behavior after the wedding; when the marriage actually begins?  How about when you get that new Hummer and then all of a sudden you realize that the car as nice as it is cost you almost 100 bucks to fill up the gas tank, or the fact it can only be fixed at the car dealer which means you will be paying into the thousands to fix something as minor as brakes for the vehicle.

The heart will lie to you; it's scripture ladies and gents.  Jeremiah 17:9-10 (mouse over) states the heart will lie to man, but the heart CANNOT lie to God.  Writing that just gave me "Good News Goosebumps" lol.  See we as believers have to do as the scripture says and that is continually fix our sights upon the Kingdom of God.  We have to make that our treasure.  Why? simple...because wherever our treasure is, our heart will be there also.  If our treasure is on Christ that means 

1. We made Christ our treasure
2. We put Christ above all other desires
3. Since Christ is our treasure our heart is also with Christ (happy dance)
4. Christ knows our heart; which means he knows that our heart is fixed on him

When Christ is our treasure our heart, mind and soul is lined up.  If we are going to be blinded by something or someone, then it might as well be Christ and the Kingdom of heaven.  Since he knows the matters of the heart why not fix our sights upon the one who can see our true intentions and desires?

getting to know the matters of the heart requires open heart surgery and seeing that you were being led by the wrong desire.  That can be an extremely painful truth, but know that if we just fix our gaze upon Christ; he who knows the heart can perform surgery on the heart.  The heart will lie to us, but not to God....Be blessed
