Being a Commissioned Man of God is not easy at all. I write this blog in hopes that men of all ages that are following Christ receive some type of hope, instruction and encouragement as they embark on their own journey with our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. To me, and I would even say the bible as well, being a commissioned man of God requires some "checks and balances". Well first off what does that phrase mean exactly? The system of checks and balances are a part of the U.S. Constitution. This system was built so that no one branch of government can become to powerful over another. Each branch is restrained by the other two. For example: The President may want to veto (stop) a law passed by congress, Congress can override that veto by a 2/3 vote from both houses of government. No one branch has total power; President can't do without congress and the houses and the houses can't do without congress and the president.
Well how does this pertain to us as Christians? Well the way I see it is it's just like the scripture says in (Luke 10:27) And he answered, You shall Love the Lord God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind....". This verse right here shows that there are several things fighting for power within us and in order for us to live a balanced Christian life, we must enforce the system of "checks and balances".
Howso? Check it out; If you are leading with any one of these, then you are in danger of these becoming idols over Christ. if you are constantly leading with your heart alone you will end up in meaningless relationships that can cause you unnecessary pain and sorrow that you could of very well avoided. Or how about your strength? If you are allowing your strength and your will to take the lead always, then you are in danger of pride seeping in and infection your spirit just as it says in (Prov 16:18). Or how about your mind? You are so bound by intellectual fact that you forget all about the Holy Spirit and you begin to let science and man made facts and lifestyle your god.
All of these are potential idols and all of these need to be regulated and on the same page in order for a harmonious spirit and for growth. All of this boils down and starts at the foundation. Where is your spiritual foundation? Is it in yourself, the world, your family, your job, your friends, your schooling; or is it in Christ? Before you can go any further in your Christian walk with the Lord, you need to know truly and whole heartedly, where is your foundation at. I'll preach it until God calls me home, we must have a strong solid foundation in Christ first. Without it our system of checks and balances will be in constant struggle for power. Before long you will have your heart, soul, mind, and strength all fighting for power. As my Pastor preached in one sermon; you will soon begin to have a "Tug of war on the inside".
This tug of war on the inside is because a balance of power is being fought for and all of you wants a piece of the action. When this happens, you must begin to enforce the checks and balance system. Howso? Glad you asked!! After you find out where your foundation is at then you have to begin to enforce the teachings and moral guidelines in which you are to follow. Since we are commissioned men of God we all should be standing on the Word of God as principal in our lives. Which means the teachings of the Bible are what help instruct and guide us to living a holy and righteous life.
This means when you are done using the bathroom, the question of do you wash your hands or leave comes up (sorry for the example), or when a stranger drops some money and you see it; do you give it back to them, or someone gets mad at you and you know you are right; do you blow up at them? All of these situations are little checks. Notice I didn't say balances because right now you are checking yourself. This means you are faced with a situation that requires you to check and see if this is in line with the foundation you say your life is standing on.
We will use the money example. Money falls hmmmm; finders keepers losers weepers (worldly), I really do need the money maybe it's a blessing from God (not); If I give back the money maybe she will give me a reward (wrong motive). Do you see what i mean by when i say checks? this is the battle that wages war on your mind, body, soul and strength. Where does the balance come in preacha? Well by the Spirit and the word of God. When you are governed by the principals and teachings of the bible (just like government should be with the constitution) you are given guidelines that help bring about the balance needed to live a holy and separated life....Ohhh i feel like preaching now.
See every single day of our lives we are faced with a series of checks that need to be balanced in order for us as commissioned men of God to walk in the Spirit and live by what the Spirit teaches us. It only gets tiring in the beginning because one side is a whole lot stronger than the other. When your flesh is waging war on you, that means you have fed that side of you too much and you need to deprive it of its nutrition intake. Your spirit needs to grow so that it can begin to enforce the balance needed to walk in the Spirit. How? by praying, by reading God's Holy Word, by having a true relationship with the Lord, by exercising faith, by fellowshipping with like minded believers, by witnessing, by worshiping, by praising. All of this feeds your spirit the right nutrients in order for your spirit to enforce the fruit of the Spirit (balance).
This does not happen overnight, but it does happen when you "check yo-self before you wreck yo-self". It's not easy, but you will begin to see a transformation and you will begin to see you walking in a more balanced and holy life. Men of God I pray this blesses you.
